Polymeric coatings are applied on the surfaces of different metals with the purpose of improving their performance such as for example: resistance to corrosion and abrasion, anti-friction and non-stick properties. In addition, some polymeric coatings can also be used in contact with food, considerably expanding the final applications of the metals on which they are applied. Finally, we must not forget that, often, these types of coatings are used for an aesthetic factor, simply to improve the visual impact of the final product. Thanks to this, they are often applied in the construction industry.
Aluminum polymeric coatings
Polymeric coatings are often used on aluminum semi-finished products and one of the most popular purposes is to increase their resistance to corrosion. For this reason, Italcoat, a company specializing in surface treatments and aluminum coatings, has developed innovative hydrophobic or hydrophilic lacquers capable of increasing specific properties of the product. Among these there is a coating based on nanotechnologies used above all in the production of fins for the air conditioning and ventilation sector. Besides increasing the corrosion resistance of the product, this particular coating limits the formation of condensation. In addition, it makes the surface oleophobic, allowing easy removal of lubricant residues, and hydrophobic since the drops of water tend to run off the sheet.
